Know 10 Trees FDC from SINGAPORE

FDC Name:Know 10 Trees
Issue Date:26th MAY 2010.
Type:Self made FDC
There are over 2,000 recorded native plants found in Singapore, and about two million trees - nearly half the size of Singapore’s population - planted along roadsides, in parks and public open space. How well do we know our trees? This is what the National Parks’ (NParks) “Know 10 Trees”initiative hopes to address, by educating the public about the common trees that accompany them in their daily lives. As part of this effort to promote awareness of our common trees and to celebrate InternationalYear of Biodiversity, SingPost and NParks have collaborated on the design of a new first day cover that features the 10 common trees of Singapore on beautifully designed stamps. This stamp issue illustrates the typical shape of the trees as well as their fruits and flowers.
The 10 commonly found trees in Singapore are
  1. Rain Tree (Samanea saman)
  2. Angsana(Pterocarpus indicus),
  3. Yellow Flame (Peltophorum pterocarpum),
  4. Senegal Mahogany (Khaya senegalensis),
  5. Broad-leafed Mahogany (Swietenia macrophylla),
  6. Tembusu (Fagraea fragrans),
  7. Sea Apple (Syzygium grande),
  8. Saga (Adenanthera pavonina),
