The United Nations declared 2010 the International Year of Biodiversity, calling on the international community to join hands in protecting biodiversity and maintaining ecological balance. Hong Kong is blessed with a diversity of natural habitats.The United Nations has proclaimed 2010 as the International Year of Biodiversity and encouraged people around the globe to devote greater attention to safeguarding wildlife and preserving ecological balance.Inspired by the amazing variety of local flora and fauna, Hongkong Post presents a set of four special stamps featuring endemic species including the Hong Kong paradise fish (the only freshwater fish named after the territory), Romer's tree frog (the smallest frog species found in Hong Kong), Sinopora hongkongensis (a plant first discovered in Tai Mo Shan which is new to science) and Fukienogomphus choifongae (a dragonfly first discovered in Wu Kau Tang which is also new to science).
