  • Established in 1907, Tata Steel is the world's 6th largest steel company with an existing annual crude steel capacity of 28 million tonnes.

  • Tata Steel completed 100 glorious years of existence on August 26, 2007 following the ideals and philosophy laid down by its Founder, Jamsetji Nusserwanji Tata.

  • The first private sector steel plant which started with a production capacity of 1,00,000 tonnes has transformed into a global giant . Tata Steel plans to grow and globalise through organic and inorganic routes. Its 5 million tonnes per annum (MTPA) Jamshedpur Works plans to double its capacity by 2010.   • The First Day Cover and the Brochure are priced at Rs 2 each. Security Printing Press, Hyderabad printed the stamps by wet offset in the quantity 1.3 million.

India post has already issued 2nos scented stamps in the year 2006 & 2007.

India FDC- Civil Service

Details:
  • Dr Manmohan Singh, the Prime minister of India released a postage stamp in honor of the Civil Service on April 21, 2008 at New Delhi on the occasion of the 3rd Civil Service Day.
  • The Prime Minister while inaugurating the third Civil Service Day said that the Civil Services need a renewed commitment in placing them on the side of the disadvantaged in society. He said that considerable process reform can be undertaken by the civil service itself to address several perception issues. Further elucidating the subject, the Prime Minister said, the challenge now is, for effective public management of the resources besides creating open, transparent and accountable systems of delivery. The inauguration was attended among others by the Minister of State for Personnel, Public Grievances and Pensions Prithviraj Chavan and Minister for Communications & Information Technology A Raja.
  • The Prime Minister gave away the 'PM Award for Excellence in Public Administration' for the year 2006--07 to the 13 awardees in three categories -- individual, group and organization. Later, he released a book on Innovations in Administration titled "Splendour in the Grass" compiled by the Department of Administrative Reforms and Public Grievances. The book covers various innovations successfully tried out by different Ministries / Departments, state / UT administrations, national and international organisations. A Raja informed that the Department of Posts was the first Department to be awarded `Sevottam' -- a model for benchmarking excellence in public service delivery.
  • An exhibition on `Innovations in Administration' and a Display of books written by civil servants was also organized on the occasion. A film, `Making a Difference', a collage of innovations undertaken across the country was also screened. Following the inaugural, the technical session commenced with a talk by the Comptroller and Auditor General of India, on `Decision Making in Government: Role of Audit'. This was followed by three parallel panel discussions on - `Recruitment and Training in Civil Service'; `Performance Appraisal of Civil Servants' and `Readiness of Civil Service to meet current challenges'. Secretaries of Government of India, Chief Secretaries and Heads of the all India services and the Central Services were among those who participated in the day-long deliberations.
  • Shankha Samanta designed the Stamp and the First Day Cover.
  • Alka Sharma designed the pictorial first day postmark. Brochure containing write-up and technical data was issued on the occasion.
  • The First Day Cover and the Brochure are priced at Rs 2 each.
  • India Security Press, Nasik printed the stamps by photogravure in the quantity 0.8 million.

Remark: India post became worst day by day as the philatelic materials are not available in the Philatelic bureau in time (On the issue date),Nobody there to listen in the India post as several complain has been given.So the end result is that philatelist loose interest in posting the FDC on the issue date.GOD HELP US.

  • Validated by IOC, the Olympic Flame will be lit in Olympia, Greece according to tradition on March 24, 2008. From March 24-29, the Torch Relay will travel across Greece, ending at the Panathinaiko Stadium, the site of the first modern Olympic Games in 1896. After the handover ceremony in the stadium, the Olympic Flame will arrive in Beijing on March 31, 2008. In Beijing, a ceremony will be held for the arrival of the flame into China and Beijing 2008 Olympic torch relay will commence.

India FDC Asrar-Ul-Haq'Majaaz'.



FDC name:Asrar-Ul-Haq 'Majaaz'.
FDC Issue Date:28th MARCH'2008.
Details:
  • Majaz Lucknawi was born in Rudauli, Bara Banki, Uttar Pradesh on October 19, 1909. His real name was Asrar ul Haq. His early education was at Ameenabaad High School, Lucknow. Later he joined Saint John's College, Agra where he was introduced to the world of Urdu poetry and met noted Urdu poets Muin Ehsan 'Jazbi' and Fani Badayuni. He began writing poetry and accepted Fani Badayuni as his Ustaad, who suggested him the pen name 'Majaaz'.

  • He graduated from Aligarh Muslim University, in 1936. Same year he moved to Delhi as editor of Awaaz, a radio magazine for All India Radio. Then he fell in unrequited love for a married woman and after a year returned to Lucknow brokenhearted. He started drinking heavily and had his first nervous breakdown. Prolonged treatment restored his sanity and he again took charge of his life. For a short time he worked in Bombay Information and after returning back took admission to study law at Lucknow University. Along with Ali Sardar Jafri, started a magazine Naya Daur and finally joined Harding Library, Delhi as Assistant Librarian. His folks fixed his marriage but the bride side backed out reportedly on his meager monthly earning of Rs 150, and this hurt him real hard. He again lost his balance and doctors one again nursed him back to mental health but he remained an alcoholic. He became a wanderer and virtually drank himself to death. Some of his so-called friends at Delhi and Lucknow used to get him over once in a while for an evening session where he was plied with alcohol and asked to recite his poetry till wee hours of the morning or till he could physically carry on. It was after one such session at a roof top of a hotel in Lucknow in a cold winter night where Majaaz was found dead in the morning in 1955. He was one of the most powerful Urdu poet that the Progressive Writer's Movement, a rallying center of liberals and intellectuals in all Indian languages with an all India presence. He composed ghazals and nazms in Urdu. He is also famous for his composition of the anthem (tarana) of Aligarh Muslim University.

  • Majaz's life was short; he rose like a star but unfortunately collapsed soon.

  • Alka Sharma designed the pictorial first day postmark. Brochure containing write-up and technical data was issued on the occasion. The First Day Cover and the Brochure are priced at Rs 2 each. Security Printing Press, Hyderabad printed the stamps by wet offset in the quantity 0.4 million in the sheets of 40 stamps.
